Though Jungle Book’s Colonel Hathi might not lead the march, an impressive elephant parade is nevertheless coming through Hasselt at this very moment. Not a real one, of course, but a beautifully made, artistic one, meant to raise money in order to save the elephants in Asia.
Those of you who were already here in 2008 might have caught a glimps of these arty creatures in Antwerp, before they left for their world trip that took them to cities like Amsterdam, London, Copenhagen, Milan and even Singapore. So it’s with quite a lot of pride that we welcome these giant dudes back in Flanders.
And there’s quite a lot of them too! More than 40 in total, so there’s bound to be one you’ll fall in love with! Like for instance Roel Vandebeek’s Fanno, the balancing elephant, Stijn Meuris’ Disco Dumbo or Diana Francis’ We Love Mosha Hasselt. Or maybe Jan Kriekels’ cute but slightly eccentric Oli.-Cacatoe will steal your heart away…
Whatever you do, just don’t try to steal a nibble… Because, yes, some of them are edible. Two elephants are made entirely out of chocolate, while one other creation is completely covered in speculoos. So if you get hungry, stay well clear of these three!
