This is the ultimate belgian comfort food, made with ” endives” or “witloof” as they call it here in Flanders. Its also known as “white gold” and “pearl of the north”! Its an acquired taste but once you love it this dish will be your perfect winter dish! In Flanders we call this dish ” Witloof met ham en kaas sauce” Cooked endives rolled in slices of ham and a melted cheese sauce poured over it and then slightly grilled in the oven! I have used Gratin cheese which means there are three different grated cheeses( you can use the ones you like) This dish is a meal in itself , no side dishes needed, very good for a light lunch or dinner!
